Goal of The Project

To bring more personalization to the app so that the general users of the app can gain more motivation and insights into their fitness progress.

Pain-Point Research

The research aims to identify users’ blockers with their fitness journey and the app’s limitations.

The improved feature will act as a bridge between the two pain points.

Key Insights

App Side

Most users don’t actively use the activity rings.
Data doesn’t exactly reflect how they mentally feel about the workout.
No summary of past workouts. Currently, the app only shows cold data and charts. It is hard to see one's progress.

User Side

Users work out for mental well-being.
The biggest blockers are the inertia of starting and the struggle with consistent motivation.
Users care about long-term gain in their fitness journey.
People have different levels of sensitivity when it comes to data.
Plans and schedules help users to stay in their routine.
Linear and trackable gain motivates users the most.

Problem Statement

There is not enough effective and intuitive synthesis of data that helps users reach their workout goals in the long term.

As a result of user testing, flow 01 is the winning concept as it is closely related to the project’s objective of approaching the general users. It is the most broadly accepted.

Challenges

Design

Watch Interface Design.

First time designing for watch interfaces. I spent time understanding the WatchOS 26 design system.

UX

Making it accessible to both data-sensitive and low-tech users.

There is no perfect solution, but by using easy-to-understand ranking UI, as well as written synthesis without sacrificing the real data, I made sure it remains neutral in terms of tech.

UI/UX

Differentiation between the workout goal ring and activity rings.

This will lead to an app-wide reorganization. Within the project time frame, I found the best solution to be staying strictly within the established 3-color ring system. All workout goals fall under the green ring.
